The Neurodevelopment of Overcontrol and Anxiety (NOA) study is designed to help understand how the development of a characteristic of “overcontrol” is related to social relationships, moods, behaviors, and anxiety. The NOA study recruited children ages 4-7 years old who exhibit shy, obedient, perfectionistic traits and are sometimes self-critical and rigid in their ways of thinking and behaving. The study compiles data from child observation, questionnaires, and an EEG, as well as a parent report of the child’s emotions and behaviors.
From this study, we hope to learn more about how children with overcontrolled tendencies react to criticism and mistakes, and how these tendencies impact moods, behaviors, and psychopathology.
We are no longer enrolling new participants in the NOA study. If you are a current participant, you will be contacted by a staff member in 1 year and again in 2 years after your first session to complete two follow-up sessions. If you have any questions, please contact Mackenzie at h.ki@wustl.edu or (314) 286-0966.
