Girls’ Lives Online (GLO) Study

This study is examining the relationship between preteen girls’ mental health and social media experiences. GLO is also examining how rejection sensitivity and puberty impact these relationships. We are looking for girls ages 10 or 11 years old.

What to Expect

  • This study will consist of a 15 minute phone screen, a 30-minute consent and assent session, and a 30-minute orientation session.
  • There will be two weeks of remote data collection, which includes for your child
    • Completing daily diaries each evening to tell us about thier day, including social media use, mood, and social interactions,
    • Responding to mini prompts throughout the day (delivered via a smart watch that we provide)
    • Collecting three saliva samples
    • Surveys to complete before the in-lab session
    • An in-office session including interviews with the child and the caregiver to learn more about their thoughts and experiences, a Life Narrative Task and an EEG session for the child, and questionnaires for both the caregiver and child to fill out
  • Procedures will be repeated annually 3 times over 2 years

Compensation

Families will be compensated up to $300 for each visit, along with a $50 completion bonus after the third and final visit. Participants will also get a prize!
